This blog is a record of the development of a new software application called FlowDx. It is maintained by Tom Franks, technical writer for Tree Star Inc. of Ashland, Oregon.

Tree Star has been awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop new software that will perform high-throughput clinical analyses on flow cytometry data. We will assemble and validate algorithms in software that can automatically classify regions of interest in flow cytometry analysis. We will demonstrate that the particular populations required by our use cases can be validly, rigorously and repeatably identified automatically. In clinical tests, and diagnostic environments, automated region identification will eliminate a complex set of human instructions and decisions, reducing error and turnaround time. We will further develop our framework for evaluating the performance of a number of existing automated gating algorithms alone and in combination. Each use case will include validation criteria approved by our collaborating scientist.

We will also develop and validate novel reporting subsystems for both graphical and statistical results that satisfy FDA requirements for software controlling medical devices, simplify regulatory compliance, and deliver analysis results to diagnostic expert systems and/or LIMS systems.
